Collaborative Family Law
Family Law Experts
The Collaborative Family Law process is a relatively new way of dealing with family disputes following the breakdown of relationships. The process aims to resolve family breakdown in a non acrimonious way, minimising the emotional harm to children and others involved.
Each person appoints their own lawyer, but instead of conducting negotiations between you and your partner by letter or telephone, you meet together to work things out face-to-face.
Each of you will have your lawyer by your side throughout the entire process and therefore you will benefit from legal advice as you go along. The aim of Collaborative Family Law is to resolve family disputes without going to court.
One of the benefits of the collaborative process is that it’s not driven by a timetable imposed by the court. So, to a large extent the process can be built around your family’s individual timetable and priorities.
Clients may prefer to resolve their family disputes in a less confrontational way that can help to move their relationship on to a harmonious platform, which can benefit the couple and, importantly, their children, as life goes on after separation.
Our highly skilled Family Law team can help you use the Collaborative Family Law process to resolve a number of family disputes including:
- Arrangements in respect of children
- Division of finances
- The family home
How much will it cost?
In most cases, we offer a free initial meeting to discuss your case. At that meeting, we will be able to advise you about the best way to fund your case, which might include:
- Fixed fees
- Monthly payments
- Public funding (“Legal Aid”)*
*Please note that significant changes to the law which affect the availability of Legal Aid will take effect on 1st April 2013. Therefore, we strongly suggest that you contact us as soon as possible to discuss your case, so that any application for public funding can be made at the earliest opportunity.
