Nursing & Care Home Fees

Have you been wrongly charged?

Have you or a relative ever lived in a nursing or care home and paid the fees yourselves? Are you still paying those fees?

If so, you may able to recover the costs if the care being provided to you should have been paid for by the NHS under the NHS Continuing Healthcare scheme. This includes the cost of accommodation, personal care and healthcare costs.

In Wales, you can make a claim if you have paid fees for yourself or a loved one living in a nursing or care home at any time since 1st April 2003 and the primary reason for being in there related to mental or physical health needs.

For those living in England, you can make a claim if you paid for care provided between 1st April 2004 and 31st April 2011, but the deadline for submitting your claim is 30th September 2012.If you wish to make a claim for care home fees paid between 1st April 2011 and 31st March 2012, you have until 31st March 2013 to register your appeal.

If you or a relative are being assessed for NHS Continuing Healthcare from April 2012 onwards, you will have 6 months from the date on which you are notified of the decision to appeal.
