The Team

Elen Hawkley

Solicitor

Elen specialises in all aspects of Civil Litigation and regularly appears before the civil court in everything from small claims to High Court matters. She has experience of undertaking advocacy for a variety of hearings and advises clients in relation to contentious issues arising out of easements, trusts of land, construction, probate, debt recovery, landlord and tenant and other business related matters. Most of Eleb's cases are multi-track cases and tend to have a high degree of complexity or unique point of law.

Elen also acts as an advocate for clients who have been asked to appear before the local authority licening committee as part of a review or sanction application.

Recently, Elen acted for a client who successfully appealed a decision of the Church in Wales on the basis that the Disciplinary Tribunal who heard the complaint had no jurisdiction to hear the matter. This resulted in the Church in Wales having to amend its Constitution.

Whilst Elen’s main area of practice is Civil Litigation, she is able to transfer her legal skills and apply them to other areas of law. Currently she is involved in criminal proceedings, defending one of a number of defendants in a high profile private prosecution brought on allegations of serious fraud. This has involved working closely with top rated QC's and  dealing with in excess of 40,000 documents arising out of disclosure to date.
